The Open Tabs Standard Is Now a Published IETF Internet-Draft

JUNE 2026 - The Open Tabs Standard, the payment model behind Dexter Tabs, is now a published IETF Internet-Draft: draft-sander-open-tabs-passkey, submitted June 20, 2026 and open for community review.
The draft's full title is "The Open Tabs Standard: Passkey-Rooted Delegated Signers for Non-Custodial Payment Channels on Solana," authored by Dexter founder Nicholas Sander.
What the Standard Specifies
The Open Tabs Standard describes how a buyer can open a tab with a seller using nothing but a passkey: the face scan or fingerprint already built into their device. The buyer's money never leaves their wallet while the tab is open, the seller is protected the whole time, and settlement happens when the tab closes. No escrow, no pre-funded balance, no custodian in the middle.
The spec covers the authorization model that makes this safe: passkey-rooted delegated signers with chain-enforced limits, so a buyer can hand an agent a tab with hard caps the chain itself enforces.
Why Publish It
Payment rails become infrastructure when anyone can implement them. Publishing Tabs as an Internet-Draft puts the whole scheme on the public record: any wallet, facilitator, or protocol team can read it, review it, and build against it. The deployed Dexter Tabs program on Solana mainnet cites the draft.
